Silly Little Things
From a girl raised on 90s and 00s romcoms
I care deeply about the state of the world. The injustice, the catastrophe, the devastation. It rarely leaves my mind, circling on a neverending loop.
And then I am also someone who loves pop culture.
And silly little things.
Like watching a couple embrace in the middle of a football field after the guy’s team wins the game which sends them to the Super Bowl.
The only things I previously connected with the Super Bowl: an episode of How I Met Your Mother starring the Sensory Deprivator 5000, one of my friends who follows the NFL who tells me if he’s happy with the team that wins, the often incredible ads, and the half time show.
That’s it.
But this year, I’m invested.
In large part due to silly little things like love stories played out on a football field.
Of course there are more important things in life. But is there anything as nice as watching two people seemingly fall in love?
For a girl raised on this:
And this:
Watching Taylor Swift finally seem to date the kind of person she deserves in Travis Kelce has been completely and utterly delightful.
Watching her stand back to give him his moment with his family.
Watching him immediately search for her afterwards.
Watching them hug and kiss and beam.
She wasn’t THE Taylor Swift on that field. She was a proud girlfriend.
It is a beautiful thing to watch people support each other in their careers and passions.
Of course there are “more important things” happening. I have not for a moment forgotten.
But sometimes, all I want is to be swept up in silly little things that feel like a romcom playing out in real life.
